Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and City of Yokohama jointly discussed to pave the way for City-to-City Collaboration for Zero-Carbon Society

         Climate Change Strategy (CCS) Sub-division, Air and Quality and noise Management Division, Department of Environment, invited Mr. Wirat Manassanitwong, Director-General of Department of Environment (DOE) to join the meeting between BMA and City of Yokohama under the project of the “City-to-City Collaboration for Zero-Carbon Society” by Japanese government’s Ministry of Environment. In this regard, Mr. Hashimoto Toru, Director General of the International Affairs Bureau City of Yokohama, representatives of City of Yokohama, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), BMA’s executives and governmental staff of DOE also attended such meeting at the DOE’s meeting room 1, BMA City Hall 2 (Din Daeng), at 1.30 p.m., on 24th December, 2021,

           Bangkok Metropolis, as an urbanized city, has conducted diverse economic and social activities resulting in the impacts on city environmental conditions and stayed at risks from climate change effects. BMA, serves as the local authority of the Kingdom of Thailand, has been making more efforts to tackle the issue. To solve such problem, Japan, in particular, City of Yokohama is a good role model in taking actions in response to climate change for many cities all over the world. Bangkok Metropolis which is also one of those cities has cooperated with JICA under the project for strengthening the institutional capacity for the implementation of Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013 – 2023.

          In last October (2021), BMA has expressed its intention to declare a Carbon Neutral City at the Asian Smart City Conference. For moving toward a leader and driving toward Carbon Neutrality, City of Yokohama has invited Bangkok to participate in the technical cooperation under the project of City-to-City Collaboration for Zero-Carbon Society of the Japanese government’s Ministry of Environment with the aim of promoting the development of sustainable and eco-friendly city of Bangkok Metropolis. In this regard, there was a meeting on planning to build Carbon Neutrality. This project is not only for promoting good relationships between BMA and City of Yokohama, but it is also a good opportunity to start implementing under City-to-City Collaboration for moving toward Zero-Carbon Society.
