BMA cooperated with JICA to organize the 7th Working Group meeting under the Project for Strengthening the Institutional Capacity for the Implementation of Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013-2023

On May 18th, 2022, at 1.30 P.M., Ms. Woranuch Suaykakaow, Deputy Director General of Department of Environment acted as a chairman of the meeting of 7th Working Group under the Project for Strengthening the Institutional Capacity for the Implementation of Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013-2023 via the online video conference at Meeting Room 1, Department of Environment, BMA Town Hall 2 (Din Daeng).

Deputy Director General of Department of Environment stated that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has supported and cooperated with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) for driving and implementing the Project for Strengthening the Institutional Capacity for the Implementation of Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013-2023. Also, there a regular meeting to monitor and evaluate the progress of operations according to the Master Plan, including continuous capacity building for sectoral Task Force members to work with JICA experts in an effective manner.

As regards Paris Agreement having been ratified by nations including Thailand, BMA as the capital of Bangkok Metropolis has determined the target of GHG mitigation in line with the global and national policy respectively. Moreover, BMA has been in the process of preparing the report of the comprehensive review of the implementation at the final phase according to the Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013 – 2023. So, BMA and JICA jointly arranged the meeting of the 7th Working Group so that to consider the draft of comprehensive review report, present the progress of activities in accordance with the Project for Strengthening the Institutional Capacity for implementing the Master Plan including improved work plan to conduct projects by 2022. Furthermore, there was presented about the City-to-City Collaboration for Zero-Carbon Society between Yokohama City and BMA and Asia-Pacific Integrated Model (AIM) operation in order to consider the feasible approach for BMA to move towards the long-term goal achievement at aiming for a Net zero Carbon City by 2050.             

Deputy Director General of Department of Environment finally stated that cooperation between BMA and JICA has been continuously driven and this will lead the implementation in accordance with the Master Plan to accomplishing the target resulting in problem-solving for climate change mitigation in a practical manner.
