Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) cooperated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to conduct the 2nd Comprehensive Review of the Progress of Implementation of the Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013 - 2023 for monitoring and assessing GHG mitigation and adaptation to climate change

         On September 9th, 2021, Climate Change Strategy (CCS) Sub-division, Air and Quality and noise Management Division, Department of Environment, invited Mr. Wirat Manassanitwong, Director-General of Department of Environment (DOE) to be a chairman of the meeting on the project of the 2nd Comprehensive Review of the Progress of Implementation of the Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013 – 2023 (Final Phase) at Meeting Room 2, DOE, BMA City Hall 2 (Din Daeng). For such meeting, Mr. Kimihiro Kuromizu, Chief Technical Advisor, JICA Expert Team, and representatives from BMA’s departments, namely Department of Environment, Traffic and Transportation Department, Department of Public Work, Strategy and Evaluation Department, Medical Service Department, Drainage and Sewerage Department, Department of City Planning and Urban Development, Fire and Rescue Department, jointed through the online video conference.

         JICA has continuously cooperated with BMA for conducting the Project for Strengthening Institutional Capacity for Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013 – 2023 since 2019. Governor of Bangkok approved to set up the new target for GHG mitigation in line with Thailand’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and Paris Agreement. Thus, DOE was assigned to cooperate with JICA to arrange the kick-off meeting of the 2nd Comprehensive Review of the Progress of Implementation of the Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013 – 2023. JICA experts presented the background of the Comprehensive Review of the Progress of Implementation of the Master Plan, several activities, and work plan for conducting the Comprehensive Review such as reviewing the situations and lessons learned from the first Comprehensive Review, scope of work team management, and so on prior to the challenges or obstacles during the period of conducting the first Comprehensive Review being discussed. Moreover, there were also suggestions for the 2nd Comprehensive Review, especially in terms of working scope and coordination with task forces of each sector according to the Master Plan, which were given in this meeting.

         The meeting of the 2nd Comprehensive Review of the Progress of Implementation of the Master Plan is for monitoring and evaluating the operation according to the Master Plan in an effective manner. Therefore, this meeting will build enabling environment for supporting and driving the implementation under the Master Plan, and generate participation from relevant agencies for determining the direction of the project operation  so that to achieve the goal resulting in tackling climate change in a concrete manner.
