Green urban planning sector
BMA has made more efforts for carbon absorption in green urban planning sector according to the Master Plan that can have many co-benefits of mitigation actions. For such co-benefits, increasing green areas and green walls can increases the amenity and attractiveness of the city. In addition, measures such as green rooftops have additional benefits of helping the reduction of energy use. For this sector, BMA has made more attempts in its parks. However, BMA has defined new creative measures to motivate more public participation such as defining new city planning and regulations for increasing green area ratio and incentive measures to persuade private sectors or land owners in Bangkok region to take part in expanding green areas with the aim of enhancing the city capacity for CO2 absorption.
For the estimation of GHG emission quantity and target for GHG mitigation in green urban planning sector under the Master Plan, it is found that in comparison to the Business as Usual (BAU), the absorption amount is at 45,232 tCO2e by 2020. However, according to the implementation of the Master Plan, it is estimated that the targets to maintain and increase the absorption amount by 49,279 tCO2e in 2020 or this figure can be calculated at 8.89%.
