Environmentally sustainable transport sector

GHG emission in the transport sector shares a large portion of the total emission which is related to the urbanization of Bangkok. The BMA can cooperate with the relevant governmental, private and civil society sector with the aim of enhancing the capacity of transport sector to support GHG mitigation. The main measures of this sector consist of measure of GHG emission and public transportation promotion, measures on motor vehicles, and public awareness-raising for mode shifts to more public transport system. By conducting such mitigation measures, the transportation modes are upgraded and mobility and convenience are improved for supporting the implementation on GHG mitigation in an effective manner.

For the estimate of GHG emission quantity in environmentally sustainable transport sector under the Master Plan, the GHG emissions were to steadily increase from 13.76 Mt-CO2e in 2013 to 17.90 Mt-CO2e which is the BAU by 2020. For the implementation of the Master Plan, the target for GHG mitigation was set at 14.91 Mt-CO2e by 2020, which is about 16.75%. According to the Comprehensive Review of the Progress of Implementation of the Master Plan, the actual GHG emissions reached at 12.41 Mt-CO2e in 2016, compared to the 2016 BAU at 15.62 Mt-CO2e.
